Dog Guards.
Dog Guards for Cars – Why Use Them?
We have been online for over six years, making custom sized car boot liners for hundreds of cars, and dog guards for 2 years under the company name Boot Buddy Ltd.
Because we make tailor made products for so many different vehicles we saw the need for something new and exciting in the dog guard product ranges. Due to the nature of our boot protection products such as our Boot Buddy boot liner, our customers are mainly dog owners, with dog guards being a necessity for most of them.
So to complement our boot protection product range, we started designing our unique 100% clear dog guards. After several years of work, we are now pleased to offer a growing number of custom made dog guards for cars in the UK.
Dog Guards
Dog guards have become a hot topic recently, especially with the new emphasis on animal welfare and safety. In the UK, even the most prestigious Kennel Club has had to strengthen its stance on dog welfare, and in particular the emotive issues of dog breeding to a man made standard.
Therefore it comes as no surprise that animal welfare groups and respected charities such as the RSPCA and PDSA are all pushing for clearer guidelines on what is and what is not acceptable when it comes to the care of pet animals. Naturally the use of car dog guards comes into this field. As a regular visitor to the UK’s largest dog show Crufts, we see so many slogans, signs and advertising all directed at promoting healthy and happy dogs. As a dog lover, these are all good moves, and anything that improves or betters our beloved dog’s lives is to be applauded. Fittting dog guards when carrying dogs is to be applauded.
Every responsible pet owner has to know about dog guards and the benefits of using them both in the home and in the car when transporting dogs. In the home a dog guard can serve to section off a part of the home which is restricted to dog access for whatever reason. It could be to prevent dogs going upstairs, to stop entry to a particular room, or even to keep several dogs apart at certain times. In a car dog guards ensure the dog or dogs remain in the boot, or trunk area when driving. Therefore well fitted dog guards play a vital role both in the house and in the car boot.
Some dog owners believe their dogs should not be restricted, such as with dog guards, and allow them to basically do whatever they want. This really is not a good situation, either for the dog or the responsible dog owner, why? Well ask yourself why do dogs need good training and set boundaries? We all recognise that a well trained dog is a pleasure to own, one who responds to some basic commands such as sit, stay, stop, lie down and so on. Dog guards serve to reinforce that message.
It’s obvious that it’s beneficial for the dogs as they are much happier having those rules and commands in place than not. So the same rule applies to dog guards, these set physical barriers that the dog gets to know and accept. This set of verbal and physical rules and commands gives dogs the secure environment in which they can lead a happy and fulfilling life. Not to mention the owners being less stressed and being able to fully enjoy the wonderful company and companionship of their pet dog or dogs.

Dog guard sales
In Britain we love our dogs, and every year tens of thousands of dog guards are sold to the responsible car driving public. There is however some disagreement between them as to which type of car dog guard is suitable. Of course the fundamental function of a car dog guard is to keep the dog usually in the boot area where they will not be able to interfere with the driver and passengers.
So many accidents have resulted from having an unrestrained dog in the car, not to mention the potential harm to dogs and passengers in the unhappy event of sudden braking or collision. So the first priority of a dog guard fitted in a car is to restrict the dogs access to the driver when the car is in motion.
Other benefits of fitting a dog guard
Other benefits of the fitted dog guards are the containment of mud hair and dirt to a specific section of the vehicle. This usually means the car boot or trunk if you are reading this in the USA. My dogs like to find all the muddy and wet puddles when out for a walk, so it’s no surprise that I and millions of fellow dog owners both want and need to restrict the mess to the boot where boot liners and mats can take the brunt of any dirt and damage instead of the car trim.
So the containment of dirt and prevention of damage is another good reason to fit a dog guard in your car.
As you can appreciate, dog guards are a very important and necessary piece of equipment. Using one or several, both in the home and in your car sets boundaries for your dog and gives you peace of mind, because you can relax in the knowledge, that your dog and possessions are fully protected in all circumstances.
Now you know the value of fitting these guards, the next question we need to answer is which one should I buy? There are a lot of different makes of dog guards available so the next post will discuss all the various types and options currently available so that you can make the right choice of dog guard for your own needs.
Customer Testimonial.
“I have been using the Safe-D-Guard (dog guards) for my Renault Megane Estate 2011 for over a month now and I have to say it is fantastic!
I have a dog that sheds a lot of hair and didn’t want my new car ruined like the last one, this product lets no hair through and I love it!
It was fitted in a couple of minutes and when I first sat in the drivers seat and looked in the rear view mirror I honestly thought it had fallen down as I couldn’t see it, I actually got out to check. I cannot thank you enough for this wonderful product. It was worth the long drive from Lincoln.
If you have anyone in the lincolnshire area that would like to see the product in person before buying one please feel free to contact me. I have been singing its praises to all my friends.
As long as I have dogs I will have one of these in every car I own.
Once again many thanks and I hope your business continues to grow.
Cheers”
